    Mechanical woes...

I switched over my SRM (loaner from SRM while my wireless is getting fixed) from the R3SL to the P3C so that I could get in a little Time Trial specific action. This weekend is the Big Island stage race and I've been struggling with the headache known as travelling with two bikes. I hate to go into a race, especially a TT, knowing that I'd already have a handicap if riding a road bike vs. a TT bike with the full aero setup... After some head scratching, I remembered that before I had the luxury of owning a TT-only bike, I just switched out the whole cockpit for TT's. So yesterday, I put the Ventus onto the R3SL... Went to move the SRM over... Oh no!... Missing a pinch bolt! Tried to loosen the large bolt using the plastic tool... No dice. That thing, for whatever reason, was STUCK like you wouldn't believe. After 30mins of struggling with bare hands, damp towel (for leverage and better grip), and using some long nose pliers pulled open on the large bolt, voila, it finally budged. Talk about stress...

I expected that I'd have been S.O.L. when it came to finding a replacement pinch bolt on O'ahu, but IT&B just so happened to have a bag of them! Phew!!!

The trip was also timed well as my Fizik Ares arrived... Just like the Arione, but with a short nose to comply with the UCI's 5cm rule.

Before all that drama, I reacquainted myself with Lagoon Drive, which I had forgotten how great a location it is for interruption free intervals workouts. I lit the fuse at the gas station, cruised up to 36mph, and got to the end of the road in 4min. Damn that was fun! Even with coming back into the wind, that fairly long interval still averaged 28mph.
