    Smaller carbon footprint...

It feels like its been forever since I've posted an entry so here's an update. I spent most of last week fighting some horrible sickness, which wasn't the best thing to combine with the first week at my new job. I went from having a runny nose, to full on congestion, combined with not so fun headaches. Whatever I had didn't seem to make it way into my lungs, so I kept doing training rides as planned. Well, almost... By the time the weekend came I felt like I'd dug myself a pretty big crater, resulting in me sleeping for the best part of 36 hours! Insanely long, but damn it was needed. On Sunday I headed out for a training ride, which turned into a borderline epic adventure in some nasty rain along O'ahu's North Shore. Good times!

This week has been going better. I'm pretty much over whatever bug I caught, and training has been going well. This morning I managed to drag my carcass out of bed at 5:30am, threw on the cycling kit, and rode 23 miles into town. Not epic miles, but a nice early morning ride even if it only took a whopping 62mins. After a quick shower and scoffing a couple pancakes, it was off to work. 8.5 hours later and I was back on the bike riding from Honolulu back to Mililani Mauka. The ride into town had a good chunk of descending, so I was expecting the return trip to take about 1.5hrs. Kipapa Gulch was the biggest worry, but I armed myself with 900 lumens of Lupine goodness on the front, a rear blinking Cateye, and a reflective vest wrapped around my Camelbak. I made it to Mil. Mauka in 1hr 12mins, and alive. Game on! Looks like I need to add in some more miles as 46 miles per day isn't really going to cut it. I guess that could work out to be about 350-400 miles week, but I think I can fit in a few extra clicks when time allows.
