"If you're an athlete, if you're anybody, anyone with a brain know thats two of the most important things for happiness and performance in your life whether you're a cameraman, or a teacher, or an athlete, is rest and food. If you don't have those two things dialled in pretty well you're not going to be near to your 100% capability of performance. - Bode Miller (American Skier / Olympian)"

    What a week...

On Thursday, I made a cameo on OC16's extreme sports show as part of their feature on the Dick Evans Memorial Road Race. It's nice to get a little TV exposure for a few reasons... 1) It's good for the team sponsors and 2) I can send a DVD back to family in Scotland that haven't seen me for a few years.

Friday morning was going as normal at work. I conference call in the morning, some work tasks after that, then at +/- 11am I was called into the conference room and told that I was getting laid off. It's been real, take your stuff, good luck. Wow. Not the Friday that I was hoping for, but c'est la vie. I could write a pretty lengthy post about the whole situation but I'll save those thoughts for myself.

Friday afternoon was spent sending out my resume and searching the various job boards. I guess right now I'm officially a full-time athlete... sans a salary. Ideal in some ways, but not so in others.

I had a reasonably good sleep on Friday night, and did a short training ride on Saturday morning. Nothing too crazy... It was more for sanity reasons and to clear my head.

Apart from a couple things, 2008 has been a year that I hope never happens again. Things can't get much worse. Fingers crossed for a more positive 2009.
