"The way I see it, there are five scenarios: If you're smart and you're weak, you can't win. If you're stupid and you're strong, you'll probably figure out a way to lose. If you're stupid and weak, then you should probably quit. If you're strong and smart enough to figure out how the race works, then you have a good chance of winning. - Floyd Landis"

    Action packed weekend...

Saturday morning was spent waking up way too early to have a little Haleakala pre-race dry run. I woke up before sunrise, then messed around with various pre-race rituals. The eventual ride wasn't anywhere near epic in length but the lack of duration was made up for with a healthy dose of intensity. That's what tapering is all about - Rest more, train less, train harder, train smarter!

On Saturday afternoon, L.A. and I hit up the Diamondhead Market for lunch. I had grilled salmon w/fries (gourmet fish + chips!) and she went for the Portobello mushroom burger. We couldn't find seating so ending up making a picnic out of the situation at a park.

Sunday morning I woke up with a mega headache and decided to pop a couple tylenol and get some extra sleep, instead of doing a planned group ride. I eventually got in a ride which was OK, followed by an afternoon nap, watching the Olympics, then catching a movie (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) which was better than I expected. After the movie L.A. and I checked out the Magic Island Family Festival... Did a couple of the rides, ate more food (shrimp pasta), and washed that down with a funnel cake! I also ate Laulau (Laulau is a Hawaiian dish. Traditionally, it consisted of pork wrapped in taro leaf) for the first time... 8 years of living in Hawaii and I managed to avoid Laulau until now!

It turned out to be a really good night to check out the carnival as it was a full moon...
