This morning was stage 1 of the Boca Hawaii stage race - A 15-lap / 45 mile race around Olomana - One of my favorite race courses. The first lap was neutral, but on the first climb of lap 2, my team mate (David Lelong) and I attacked at the same time. Not super hard, but enough to get the party started and have people chasing. I tried a few accelerations and got into a couple 2-man breaks but they none of them would stick. At one point or another, I was off the front with either Tony Lang, Ray Brust, Chad Seymor, and Alex Eiler. Our group gradually got whittled down with accelerations on the climbs and it came down to Tony, Ray, Alex and myself. I sat in 3rd wheel going into the final climb and attacked earlier than normal to get a good jump on the group. Ray was behind me and came with me but I held a good size gap to the finish. Finally I won Olomana with enough of a gap allowing me to rock out a two-arm victory salute.

SRM File.

My final attack for the win maxed out at 1170 watts, I averaged 707w for the last 38sec of the race, climbing at 29mph, and the final 24sec were at 858w and 31.53mph. I think I might have my climbing game back on track after recovering from Cascade.
In honor of Carlos Sastre's pendingn TdF GC victory, and being current race leader of the Boca HI Stage Race, I made a change to my bike that will be revealed tomorrow. It's that magic yellow color!
