Now that I've done a few miles of riding with the new wireless SRM, I figured I would update my blog entry. Getting it up and running wasn't that hard, but there were a few hoops to jump through. Firstly, I had to soak the handlebar mount in hot water to get it to stretch a little as it was damn tight fit.
Once the crankset and powercontrol were on the bike, I installed the Sunto QR which has an built-in speed sensor.
The sensor at the crankset is the same as the old one, except for it doesn't have wires. I installed that under the BB cable guide but it wasn't getting close enough to the crankset for the PCVI to pick up the signal. I changed out the BB cable guide to one of those purple colored ones - The stock guide that came on my R3SL is kind of crappy.
Once everything is on the bike, you have to hold down one of the buttons for 3 sec, then select power, speed, or heart rate and let the PCVI find the signal for each device. That all worked perfectly. Phew.
So far I've only done a couple miles with it and have yet to download the files. There's a new version of the SRM software for the PCVI, and Cyclingpeaks also released a new version of WKO+ that reads the new SRM file format. Time to play with that fun stuff tonight - Will be cool to finally have altitude data in my power files.
