    I suck...

I finally saw the results from today's Mt Hood stage, and the current GC. I'm sitting in second last place. I don't know how I can train so hard for a race and do so ultra shit. Might be time to hang up the wheels.

    Hey Mike,

Sorry to hear you're having a bad race. I seem to remember you posting something similar to this one last year too, and you picked yourself up and won the state crit, and came out on fire this year too. It's just gotta be hard training in a totally different environment and coming to the mainland for these huge races. Hang in there man!

    Roger:

You mean hanging your wheels on the national level? You still kick ass locally. Well at 30 or nearing 30 years old, it's really kind hard to compete nationally. From your entries, you look like you were doing a good job and working hard on cycling so it is surprising that you got 2nd from last place.
Maybe you pushed too hard or you didn't relax.
But then it's only one race and you have a full time job. Those on the top of the standings have only cycling as their job.
Training in cycling means that to get the most out of your training, your rest should correspond to your training so that the body can absorb the training regimen you plan for.
Your training is work from 8-5 then train at night. But by the time you train, your body is already tired at 5 so it wouldn't absorb the miles or the intervals that you were doing.
You can try to lose more weight, or lessen your training time and get more rest. Since too much training doesn't wok for you. You might want to try other concepts.
Or you can change your goals in cycling to: just coaching, compete locally, track cycling, or endurance cycling like RAAM.
I am training for RAAM right now but I expect to compete for it 5-10 years down the road!
This is too long but just my two cents. Good luck to you!
Maybe we can form a team RAAM someday.

Chin up kid, at least you're still kicking someone's ass
